EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman Selena Lasota has been named a nominee for the Tewaaraton Award presented by Under Armour, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday afternoon.
Five women's finalists will be selected from these groups of 25, announced on Thursday, May 7, and invited to the ceremony. The 15th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 28 in Washington, D.C., at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
Lasota has been one of the most dynamic scorers in the country this season, ranking fourth in the nation with 3.6 goals per game and sixth with 54 goals total. She also ranks 19th in the country with 4.0 points per game and 67th with 1.33 caused turnovers per contest. She has scored at least two goals in all 15 games this season and became the first Northwestern freshman to eclipse the 50-goal plateau since Kristen Kjellman in 2003.
She has twice been named the Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the Week, has earned three Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors and was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week once.
The women's award nominees include players from 16 schools, including 2014 finalists Megan Douty (Maryland), Shannon Gilroy (Florida) and Kayla Treanor (Syracuse), 2014 winner Taylor Cummings (Maryland), and representatives from 14 of the Top 20 teams in the April 20 IWLCA Coaches Poll. Six schools had two or more players nominated, with Maryland earning an NCAA-best four nominations.
"We congratulate these elite student-athletes on their remarkable accomplishments thus far this season," said Jeff Harvey, chairman of the Tewaaraton Foundation. "With the help of our selection committees, we look forward to announcing this year's finalists next month."
