Bridget Bianco Earns First B1G Defensive Honor

Evanston, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Bridget Bianco has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Bianco made double-digit saves for the second consecutive contest Saturday, making 12 stops to lead the Wildcats past Colorado at Lakeside Field, 14-8.The performance comes on the heels of a 13-save performance at No. 2 North Carolina just a week ago.

The Moorestown, N.J., native reached double figures with 10 saves in the first 30 minutes of play, holding the Buffs to 3-for-7 on free-position opportunities in the opening half.

She went on to make two more saves in the second half when the 'Cats outscored CU, 10-4.

This marks the third-straight week that a Wildcat has earned a weekly Big Ten honor.

Bianco and the Wildcats return to action on Sunday, March 22 when they play host to No. 6 Syracuse at Lakeside Field. The game is scheduled for noon and will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
