Game Notes Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The fourth-ranked Northwestern Lacrosse program will play its third-straight top-10 foe on Sunday when it hosts No. 10 Louisville at noon. The game will conclude a four-game homestand for the Wildcats and will air on the Big Ten Network.

The 'Cats are coming off a 16-5 loss on Thursday at the hands of No. 1 Maryland, their second-worst defeat in program history. Northwestern is 2-0 this season following a loss and holds a 2-0 record against the Cardinals all time.

Ms. Scores A Lot
Freshman Selena Lasota has quickly become one of the most dangerous offensive players in the country in this just her freshman season. Lasota has scored at least two goals in each of the first eight games to start her career, recording at least a hat trick in six of the contests. She has scored four goals twice, five goals twice and notched a season-high six goals at Marquette on February 21. As of Friday, March 27, Lasota leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth nationally with 3.88 goals per game. Lasota is also 19th in the country with 4.25 points per game.

No Ordinary Freshman Class
Head Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller signed the top-rated class in the country in the offseason and it hasn't taken long them to make their impact felt on the field. A freshman currently leads the `Cats statistically in every category but draw controls, which is led by sophomore Sheila Nesselbush.

- Goals: Selena Lasota (31)
- Assists: Corinne Wessels & Shelby Fredericks (7)
- Points: Selena Lasota (34)
- Ground Balls: Lindsay Darrel (16)
- Caused Turnovers: Selena Lasota (12)

No Sophomore Slump
A year after starting every game of her freshman campaign, sophomore Sheila Nesselbush is one of just three position players to start each game this season while taking her game to another level. Nesselbush surpassed her total of five goals from last season already as she is tied for third on the team with eight goals while leading the team with 23 draw controls. She has scored at least two goals in three games this season, including her first career hat trick at North Carolina on Feb. 28.

Welcome, Ms. Wessels
After missing the first four games of the season to injury, freshman Corinne Wessels has made an immediate impact to the Wildcats' offense in her three games. Wessels is tied for the team lead with seven assists and fifth on the team with 10 points through the first three games of her collegiate career. She set a season team-high with five assists in a 14-8 win over Colorado on March 7. Her willingness to distribute has rubbed off as well, as the `Cats have 18 assists over their last four games after dishing out just nine in the first four.

Scouting the Cardinals
The 10th-ranked Louisville squad enters Sunday's contest with a 8-2 record overall following a 15-4 win over Longwood earlier this week. Kaylin Morissette leads the Cardinals in goals (35), assists (10), points (45) and is the nation's leader with 118 draw controls. Faye Brust has scored 34 goals, Hanna Koloski 33 and Courtnee Daley 28 as the Cardinals feature a potent offensive attack. Ashley Peacock boasts a 7.06 goals-against average and .477 save percentage.
