LAS VEGAS - Fifth-year senior Scott Heelan went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI on Sunday night, but the Wildcats fell to UNLV in the series final at Wilson Stadium, 7-2.

The game went scoreless for the first three frames before Northwestern opened the scoring in the top of the fourth. Heelan led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced on the throw. Sophomore Matt Hopfner followed up with a single to left field to drive in the Wildcats first run of the game.

UNLV countered with two runs in its half of the fourth inning. The Rebels found the equalizer with an RBI triple before a base hit gave the home team its first and final lead of the game. UNLV extended its advantage with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth, 3-1, before the `Cats could attack.

Northwestern's offense sparked momentum in the top of the seventh as junior Zach Jones drew a one-out double and scored after an RBI double from Heelan. The Rebels bats came alive as UNLV posted a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. NU was unable to string together a scoring rally and UNLV closed out the series in Las Vegas, 3-1.

The Wildcats continue their road tour with a pair of games against Saint Mary's, beginning Tuesday, March 24. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CST.
