EVANSTON, Ill. -- In search of a 16th consecutive top-10 finish at the NCAA Men's & Women's Fencing Championships, six Northwestern Wildcats will make the trek to Columbus, Ohio later this month. The women's tournament will be held at the French Field House on the campus of Ohio State University, March 21-22.
The Wildcats will send two fencers per weapon, including four newcomers and a pair who are returning to the national championship for a second consecutive season. Junior Jen Yamin will be in the women's foil field for the second year in a row, while sophomore Alisha Gomez-Shah was qualified once again in sabre.
Joining Yamin as one of 24 in the foil field will be sophomore Stephanie Chan. Yamin finished seventh at the NCAA Midwest Regional over the weekend with nine wins, one spot ahead of Chan who placed eighth with eight victories.
Gomez, who was Northwestern's top individual finisher at the 2014 NCAA Fencing Championship, returns this year after placing fifth at the NCAA Midwest at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion last Saturday. Her classmate, Cindy Oh, finished sixth over the weekend to secure her very first bid to the NCAA Championship.
Perhaps one of Northwestern's most surprising qualifier is junior Helen Foster (epée). The Swarthmore, Pa., native won 13 of 16 bouts on Saturday to earn the bronze medal and her first-ever berth in the NCAA Fencing Championships. Juliana Barrett, also from the epée squad will fence for the Purple and White in Columbus.

ESPN3 will broadcast the NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Championships this year. Some preliminary bouts, along with the semifinals and championship bouts from St. John Arena on March 22. An hour-long highlight show will also air on ESPNU on Wednesday, April 8 at 2 p.m. CT.
