EVANSTON, Ill. - The Wildcats got back to their winning ways on Sunday with a decisive 6-1 victory over No. 35 Texas inside the Combe Tennis Center. No. 33 Northwestern won each doubles match and 5 singles matches to improve to 4-3 this season.

"I thought we looked good in spots," Head Coach Claire Pollard said. "We are still a little hot and cold. We have to get to a point where everyone brings it every time for the whole contest."

Northwestern opened the match with a pair of dominant doubles wins over the visiting Longhorns. Barnett and Larner teamed up at the first spot and rolled to a 6-2 win at the same time that Chatt and Leung were wrapping up their own 6-2 win at No. 2. A Texas forfeit at the third position gave the `Cats a clean sweep to open up the team scoring.

NU benefited from a Texas forfeit at the sixth singles spot and a retirement due to injury at No. 4. Chatt won a first set tiebreak over Lina Padegimaite 7-6 (5) before the Longhorn was forced to retire from the match, giving the `Cats a 3-0 lead.

Erin Larner continued her dominating play of late, taking down Danielle Wagland at No. 2 by a 6-0, 6-4 score to secure the win for Northwestern. Larner improved to 5-2 in 2015 and 18-6 overall with the win.

With the win already in hand for Northwestern, the teams decided to finish out the remaining matches. Barnett fought off a tough opponent at No. 1 in Neda Koprcina in a close match. Barnett and Koprcina split the first two sets and went to a 10-point tiebreak to decide the winner. The Northwestern junior proved too much, winning 10-4. Leung finished off the day for the Wildcats with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Ratnika Batra at the third position.

Northwestern returns to Big Ten play with a match at Ohio State on Friday, March 6. Action is set to begin at 11 a.m.
