Lasota Named B1G Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week

Evanston, Ill. -- Selena Lasota has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This marks the second time in three weeks that Lasota has been named the conference's top freshman and the first as its top offensive player for a week.
Lasota (Campbell River, B.C./Carihi Secondary) continued the torrid start to her collegiate career last week with 11 goals in the Wildcats' two games. She now has 17 through the first four games of her career and is tied for second in the country in total goals.
She opened the week with a five-goal performance against No. 8 Duke, all of which came in succession for the Wildcat. On Saturday, she improved upon her performance and tallied a hat trick in each half to finish with a season-best six goals in a 13-6 victory at Marquette.
As impressive as her offensive play was, it was Lasota's presence in the midfield against the Golden Eagles that helped the `Cats get back on the winning track. Lasota finished with six caused turnovers, tying the second best single-game mark in program history, and four ground balls.
For the week, Lasota finished with 11 goals on 16 shots (15 shots on goal), nine caused turnovers and five ground balls while going a perfect 3-for-3 in free-position opportunities.
The sixth-ranked Wildcats are currently 3-1 on the season and will travel to No. 2/3 North Carolina this Saturday. The opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
