EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 30 Northwestern brought its weekend to a close with a 4-0 victory over UIC. The 'Cats are now 3-4 on the season.
NU got on the board early with two quick doubles wins. Fedor Baev and Strong Kirchheimer blanked Isaac Lloveras and Louis Theodor 6-0 at the top spot, and Mihir Kumar and Alp Horoz bested Mitch Granger and Eric Pontow 6-1 at No. 3.
In singles play, NU rolled to a first set win in every match. Alex Pasareanu was the first to close at No. 6, beating Granger 6-2, 6-0. Kumar soon followed suit at No. 3 with a near-perfect 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Theodor.
Sam Shropshire then clinched the 4-0 victory at No. 1, topping Isaac Lloveras 6-2, 6-1.
The 'Cats have another busy schedule of home matches next weekend, opening with Boise State at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. They then host Harvard at 11 a.m. on Sunday, followed by Valparaiso at 6 p.m. for the nightcap.
