EVANSTON, Ill. — Freshman Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) earned her first-ever collegiate distinction with the Big Ten handing down Co-Freshman of the Week honors to the diver on Wednesday.
This is on the heels of a stellar performance at Illinois (Oct. 30) in which Rosendahl swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. She finished more than 77 points ahead of the next-closest diver from the 3-meter springboards while earning a score of 349.50 — the best so far in her young Northwestern career. She also took home a first-place score of 277.95 from the 1-meter boards.
Last Friday's performance at Illinois was the second-straight first-place sweep for the freshman. At the Chicago Quad (Oct. 24), she also recorded the top scores from both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards. She broke Chicago's pool record in the 3-meter event with a score of 318.98.
She has been a contributor to the Wildcats' hot start of 4-0, as they swept the competition at the Chicago Quad and then defeated Illinois.
Rosendahl has some familiarity with earning distinctions. This summer, she earned the bronze medal at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju City, South Korea. Last year, she won the bronze medal on the 10-meter platform at the 2014 AT&T National Diving Championships.
This is the first Big Ten weekly honor for Northwestern since January 20, 2015, when Mary Warren (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Northwestern women's swimming and diving is back in action on Saturday, November 14 as Big Ten rival Wisconsin comes to Evanston. The meet will begin at 10:30 a.m.
