EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern volleyball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, but Maryland pulled away from the Wildcats en route to a 3-0 despite a strong comeback effort in the third set from Chicago's Big Ten Team.

Seniors Abbie Kraus and Caroline Niedospial played in their last match as Wildcats and were honored before the game. Niedospial contributed 15 digs and Kraus continued her strong serving.

Symone Abbott posted a match-high 13 kills and was the Wildcats' leader for the fifth consecutive time. Gabrielle Hazen added 11 kills of her own with an impressive .600 hitting percentage.

Taylor Tashima finished with 39 assists in three sets after a particularly impressive 18-assist first set. Heading into the game she was averaging just under 11 assists per game.

Maddie Slater also put in a solid two-way performance with 8 kills and 2 solo blocks. She finished her season with a .344 hitting percentage which ranks 4th all-time in program history.

The Wildcats fell to Maryland 25-23 in the first set. Abbott and Hazen had things working early with six and five kills, respectively.

The Wildcats dropped the second set, 25-20, after Maryland jumped out to an early four-point lead.

Northwestern made a valiant effort in the third set but lost 25-23. Down 24-20, they mounted a comeback attempt including a long rally that drew them to within a point.

Chicago's Big Ten Team ends the 2015 campaign with a 14-17 mark and will wait to hear All-Conference selections next week.
