Post-Game Notes

CEDAR PARK, Texas -
Senior Maggie Lyon registered a season-best 21 points to lead all scorers on Friday night as No. 19 Northwestern (5-0, 0-0 B1G) defeated Creighton (3-2, 0-0 Big East) on day two of the Lone Star Showcase at the Cedar Park Center.

"I thought we played a really good game against a great Creighton team," Lyon said. "I am really proud of how we executed our game plan both offensively and defensively. We have been talking about that all year and I thought we were really disciplined tonight. It was an awesome team effort across the board."

Lyon tallied a season-best five 3-point field goals, just one shy of matching a career-high mark, to lead the 'Cats.  Nia Coffey and Ashley Deary joined the senior co-captain in double figures with 16 and 17 points, respectively.

Coffey added 10 rebounds to her performance for her second double-double of the year.

The Wildcats dominated the first two frames, jumping out to a 13-0 lead – highlighted by a pair of treys from Lyon – right out of the gates. Creighton logged a triple of its own to break the 'Cats game-opening run, but Coffey and Inman connected on consecutive shots from three-point range to counter the Bluejays' effort.

Chicago's Big Ten Team opened the second quarter with a 23-10 advantage, and held Creighton without a bucket for the first three minutes. The Bluejays were able to string together a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 13, but Northwestern held Creighton with out back-to-back shots for the remainder of the frame.

The 'Cats entered the halftime break with a comfortable 40-24 cushion.

Northwestern went ahead by as much as 28 in the third quarter and capped off the frame with a 9-0 surge. The Blue Jays came within 20 points with two minutes left to play, but freshman Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah logged her first-career field goal to close out the game for the Wildcats.

NU connected on 46 percent (27-59) of its shots, including a season-best 60 percent (9-15) from three-point range and 86 percent (12-14) from the charity stripe. Creighton shot 33 percent (21-64) from the field, 21 percent (6-28) from beyond the arc and 57 percent (4-7) from the free-throw line. The 'Cats won the rebounding battle, 40-36.

The Wildcats close out the Lone Star Showcase tomorrow (Nov. 28) with a matchup against East Carolina. The Pirates are currently receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll and are 1-1 in the Tournament. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. The game can be followed with live stats via NUSports.com, and scoring updates will be provided on the @NU_SportsLIVE twitter account, where fans will find the most up to date news and content.
