Northwestern Competes at Annual Michigan State Open

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Northwestern wrestling program opened up its 100th season of competition at the Michigan State Open on Sunday. Seniors Dominick Malone and Jameson Oster and freshman Anthony Rubinetti placed for the Wildcats.
Oster started the day with three straight wins, each of them impressive. He beat Olivet's Curtis Blackwell by fall in 1:43, then Central Michigan's Kyle Noonan by major decision 10-0 and then Appalachian State's Michael Longo, 20-11. Oster then withdrew from the tournament and ended up fourth.
Malone also earned a first-round fall, beating Eastern Michigan's Ben Calandrino in 1:44. After a second round loss, Malone rebounded to win the next three, two by fall and one by tech fall, on his way to a fifth-place finish.
Competing in the freshman/sophomore division, Anthony Rubinetti (unattached) racked up four wins by fall on his way to a fourth-place showing.
Other Wildcats in competition Sunday were Garrison White (125 / 2-2), Ian Cramer (133-unattached / 3-2), Alec McKenna (141-unattached / 0-2), Jason Ipsarides (141-unattached / 1-2), Luke Norland (174-unattached / 0-2), Mitch Sliga (184 / 2-2), Regis Durbin (184 / 0-2), Jacob Berkowitz (197 / 2-2), Conan Jennings (285 / 1-2) and Zack Chakonis (285 – unattached / 1-2).
Northwestern is right back at it next Sunday at the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia, Pa. The all-day event will be held at The Palestra.
