Kim Cards Low Score Of Round 2 To Surge Into Top-4 At Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Wildcats sophomore Hannah Kim carded the lowest score of Monday's second round at the Stanford Invitational to surge into the Top-4 heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. Kim fired a 4-under 67 and enters the third round at 2-under, four strokes off the lead.

The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year opened the second round with birdies on 1, 3 and 7 and ended the day with five birdies and one bogey on her scorecard. Freshman teammate Stephanie Lau bounced back from a bogey on No. 2 to record three birdies and 13 pars over her final 16 holes to register a 2-under 69 and climb into a tie for eighth-place at even-par for the tournament after two days. The rookie's 28 pars rank third in the field through 36 holes.
 
The Wildcats jumped two spots up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth-place with a 2-under 282 in the second round, a score bettered only by the tournament leading hosts from Stanford. Northwestern enters Tuesday's final round just two strokes back of third place in a loaded field.

Final round tee times on Tuesday start at 7:30 a.m. PT on the first and 10th holes. Senior Kaitlin Park will tee off first for Northwestern at 8:15 on hole No. 1, followed by Sarah Cho, Kacie Komoto, Lau and Kim in nine-minute increments, paired with golfers from Georgia and UC Davis.
 
This year's 17-team field features four of the Top-5 teams in the nation in the season's first Golfstat Rankings, and eight of the Top-17, The leaderboard includes No. 1 Northwestern, No. 2 Southern California, No. 3 Arizona, No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 Stanford, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 14 Iowa State and No. 17 Washington.
 
Northwestern has recorded the two lowest 54-hole scores in program history in their last two events. The Wildcats fired an 849 at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville and followed it with an 852 in winning the 2015 Windy City Classic at Westmoreland C.C. Entering the season the program's top 54-hole score was the 853 carded as last year's Stanford Invitational.
 
Located in the foothills overlooking Stanford's campus, the Stanford University Golf Course was designed in 1930 by renowned architects William Bell and George Thomas and the par-71, 6,130-yard course is steeped in tradition. Throughout the years, Stanford has hosted many intercollegiate and non-collegiate events, including the Stanford Intercollegiate, Peg Barnard Intercollegiate, Pac-10 Championship, NCAA Regional, NCAA Women's Championship, USGA Junior Amateur Qualifying, U.S. Open Qualifying and The Gathering at the Farm, a former Senior PGA Tour event.
