Sam Nemecek Named USA Fencing Sports Performance Manager

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Former Northwestern All-American Sam Nemecek-Belding has been named sports performance manager for USA Fencing, the organization announced this week.

Nemecek-Belding graduated as one of the top foilists in program history in 2009. She was the second fencer in Northwestern history to earn four All-America awards, doing so from 2005-06 through 2008-09. She eclipsed 100 victories in each of her four campaigns and she owns 430 total victories, which are the most in program history. Nemecek-Belding's winning percentage of .855 is the second-best at NU, just behind Kate Rudkin (.856). She was also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

The Caledonia, Mich., native has also fenced with Team USA during her illustrious career. Nemecek-Belding reprsented the United States at the 2006 Senior World Championships and at Junior and Cadet Worlds from 2003-2005.

According to USA Fencing, Nemecek-Belding will work in conjunction with the squad managers to coordinate national team logistics at the senior, junior and cadet level. She also will liaise with USA Fencing coaches and referees and assist with the implementation of new educational programs as well as working. In addition, Nemecek-Belding will help develop new competition and training opportunities for athletes in the wheelchair fencing program.
