EVANSTON, Ill. -- Competing at the championship 6K distance for the first time this season, Northwestern claimed a third-place team finish at Saturday morning's Big Ten Preview meet hosted at the University of Iowa's Ashton Cross Country Course, site of the 2014 Big Ten Championships later this fall.

The field included the nation's current No. 1-ranked team, the Michigan Wolverines, who placed the top four overall runners and seven in the top 10. Northwestern finished third with 87 team points, 17 behind second-place Wisconsin and in front of Kansas State and host Iowa.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was sophomore Andrea Ostenso, who charged to a seventh-place finish with a time of 21:35.8. Her classmate, Jena Pianin, was NU's next competitor across the line, placing 11th in the individual standings with a time of 21:52.3.

Junior Camille Blackman was third among Wildcats, notching a top-20 finish and crossing just three seconds off her 6K personal-best with her time of 21:59.8. Junior Elena Barham (22:37.9) and freshman Sara Coffey (23:15.5) also scored as top-5 NU finishers on the day.

Complete team and individual results are linked in a PDF document at the top of the page.

Northwestern's next test comes on Friday, Oct. 3, when it participates in the annual Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend. The event regularly draws a wide collection of the nation's top teams and individuals.
