IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Northwestern sophomore Jena Pianin provided a career-best 6K effort and placed 22nd overall in the individual standings, leading the Wildcats at the 2014 Big Ten Championships in Iowa City. Pianin cut nearly 40 seconds off her previous 6K best -- and more than a minute off the time she recorded earlier this season on the very same course at Iowa.

Northwestern finished 10th in the team standings with 268 points, besting Iowa (300), Rutgers (328), Nebraska (347) and Maryland (445). Northwestern was just 16 points back of Illinois and 25 behind Purdue in eighth.

Pianin was one of several Wildcats to achieve a career best by a significant amount on Sunday. Sophomore Andrea Ostenso recorded her second straight top-50 finish at the Big Ten Championships, posting a time of 21:20, a season-best time by 15 seconds for Ostenso. Close behind Ostenso was junior Elena Barham in a time of 21:22, easily besting her previous career best and recording her first-career sub-22-minute 6K effort.

Another junior, Camille Blackman, also dropped below 22 minutes with her time of 21:51.5, placing 75th in the field of 123 competitors.

Two weeks from now, the Wildcats will be back in action for the 2014 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
