EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior Suchaya Tangkamolprasert (Bangkok, Thailand/Bromsgrove International School) has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a season-opening victory at the 16-team Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational that wrapped up Tuesday.

Tangkamolprasert fired a 6-under 213 on the par-73 UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., to finish a career-best second place overall in the tournament. That total ranks as the fourth-lowest 54-hole individual tournament score in NU's program history.

The 2014 All-America Scholar opened with a 3-under 70 before carding a career-best 4-under 69 in the second round. She closed with a 74 to earn her runner-up status and help secure the NU team victory.

With Tangkamolprasert's lead and strong work from a deep roster of Wildcats teammates, Northwestern posted an eight-stroke victory in the event with a total score of 868 -- the third-lowest 54-hole team score in program history.

The Wildcats are coming off back-to-back 15th place finishes at the NCAA Championships and were ranked 13th in the nation in the preseason by Golfweek. NU returns to action Sept. 28-30 at the Annika Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
