EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wildcats men's soccer team has a special late-night matchup scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Lakeside Field as part of Northwestern University's Wildcat Welcome Week for the incoming Class of 2018. The 'Cats and Valparaiso Crusaders will match up beginning at 9:30 p.m. on the shores of Lake Michigan in a non-conference tilt.

In addition to kicking off under the lights, there are several promotions surrounding the game to celebrate the arrival on campus of the newest Wildcats freshman class. The first 2,000 students will receive a green Northwestern soccer t-shirts in honor of Halfway To St. Patrick's Day. A Student Fan Fest featuring inflatables, cornhole boards, games and music will be held on the field hockey field. During the game Northwestern student-athletes will teach the freshman class “Go U Northwestern!”, the University fight song, and at halftime three students will have the opportunity to participate in an on-field promotion to win $10,000.

Chicago's Big Ten Team enters Wednesday's meeting with Valpo sporting a perfect 2-0-0 record this season at Lakeside Field. Tim Lenahan's squad has been led by forward Joey Calistri's three goals, which rank third in the Big Ten, and netminder Tyler Miller's three shutouts, which also slot him third in the Conference. Northwestern will be bolstered by the return of defensive linchpin Nikko Boxall who sat out last Sunday's game at Ohio State following a red card the previous weekend.

Valparaiso will be Northwestern's stiffest home test to date, currently ranked fourth in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's Great Lakes Region Poll, and receiving six votes in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's National Poll. The Crusaders jumped up six spots in the regional poll after defeating former Horizon League rival Butler, 2-1, and upsetting then-#7 Michigan State in East Lansing, 1-0 last weekend.

Wednesday will be the 16th all-time meeting between Northwestern and Valparaiso, and their first since Sept. 11, 2011, in a neutral-site contest in DeKalb, Ill. The Crusaders won that game 1-0 thanks to a goal scored with just 17-seconds remaining in regulation.

Season tickets are now on sale by calling the Northwestern ticket office at 1-888-GO-PURPLE and NUSports.com. Tickets for Wednesday's game will be available at the Lakeside Field Box Office.
