Wildcats Ranked 13th in Golfweek Fall Countdown

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern opens the 2014-15 season ranked No. 13 in the nation by Golfweek college expert Julie Williams in the magazine's fall countdown.
The Wildcats impressed the experts last season when they blew the doors off the stroke play portion of the stacked Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic with a record-breaking 11-under 277, showcasing what NU's exceptionally deep lineup is capable of producing. In addition to winning the stroke play part of the Liz Murphey, Northwestern also collected a team victory at the Hurricane Invitational and finished 15th at the NCAA Championships.
NU returns a trio of All-Big Ten performers from last year in senior Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson), junior Kaitlin Park (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) and sophomore Kacie Komoto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou). Lee also was a Golfweek All-America honorable mention honoree last season.
The Wildcats have had a strong summer leading into this season, as well. Consider these accomplishments:
- Lee claimed medalist honors at her U.S. Women's Open Qualifier
- Incoming freshman Sarah Cho (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links
- Incoming freshman Hannah Kim (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) advanced to the semifinal round of the California Women's Amateur
- Komoto repeated at Hawaii's State Match Play champion and finished in the top 20 at the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship
- Park swept two Mission Hills Q-School Prep events, winning medalist honors in both against talented fields comprised of amateur and professional golfers
Northwestern will begin its 2014-15 season Sept. 15-16 at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., and hosts its annual home event, the Windy City Collegiate Classic, Oct. 6-7 at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill.
