EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Cross Country was unable to open its 2014 season Friday night when its debut meet, the NIU Night Race hosted by Northern Illinois, was canceled due to severe weather in the DeKalb area.

Northwestern was slated to run against NIU and DePaul under the lights before lightning and heavy rains delayed and ultimately canceled the two-mile race.

Head coach April Likhite and the Wildcats will now have an additional week to train for the Badger Season-Opener hosted by Wisconsin next Friday (Sept. 5).
