Campbell, VanHoose Earn Second-Team All-Big Ten Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior safety Ibraheim Campbell (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) and junior cornerback Nick VanHoose (Urbana, Ohio/Graham) earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from the league coaches and media, respectively, as announced by the Big Ten on Monday.
NU's talented tandem in the secondary headlined a group of seven total Wildcats to appear on the 2014 All-Big Ten report. Earning honorable mention for Northwestern were LB Chi Chi Ariguzo, RB Justin Jackson, DL Dean Lowry OL Brandon Vitabile and SB Dan Vitale.
Already a two-time honorable mention All-Big Ten selection, Campbell nabs his first second-team honor, tying for the Big Ten lead with four forced fumbles despite missing four games to injury this season. He also recorded three interceptions, moving into a tie for third all-time at Northwestern with 11 INTs for his career. Campbell, who finished with 316 career tackles, also is tied for fifth in school history with 24 career pass breakups.
Campbell's fellow start in the secondary, Nick VanHoose earned second-team honors from the media voters after ranking second in the conference with 1.2 pass breakups per game in 2014. VanHoose notched two interceptions while also shining on special teams with a blocked field goal and two blocked PATs, one of which he returned the length of the field for a defensive two-point conversion.
Below is a look at Northwestern's five honorable mention All-Big Ten performers:
• LB Chi Chi Ariguzo (coaches, media): Ariguzo earns his third honorable mention , the senior led the Wildcats with 104 tackles -- his second straight season surpassing 100 stops -- and finished with 333 tackles and 24.5 TFLs for his career. Ariguzo also wrapped his Northwestern career with six interceptions and five fumble recoveries.
• RB Justin Jackson (coaches): In a league packed with the nation's top rushing talent, true freshman Justin Jackson proved to be as electric as any of them, becoming the second freshman in school history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards on the season. Jackson recorded six 100-yard rushing games -- all against Big Ten opponents or Notre Dame - on his way to 1,187 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. His 98.9 rushing yards per game ranked as the fourth most by a Power 5 conference freshman this season.
• DL Dean Lowry (coaches): True junior Dean Lowry appears on his first all-conference report after starting all 12 games at defensive end and totaling 41 tackles and 8.0 TFLs and disrupting opposing passers to the tune of eight pass breakups, which ranked second on the team this season behind only VanHoose.
• OL Brandon Vitabile (coaches, media): Vitabile finished his career at the center of the Wildcats offensive line having started all 50 games of his Northwestern tenure with a pair of honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades. Also a Capital One Academic All-District honoree and an NFF National Scholar-Athlete, Vitabile served two years as a team captain while remaining the anchor on an O-Line that produced 1,000-yard rushers in two of the last three seasons.
• SB Dan Vitale (coaches): One of NU's most versatile offensive weapons, Vitale earned his first honorable mention accolade after ranking second on the team in both receptions (40) and yards receiving (402), setting single-season career highs in both categories. The junior also surpassed 100 career receptions and 1,000 career yards late in 2014, positioning him for a run at NU's career receiving records for a tight end.
