EVANSTON, Ill. -- Mike Roberge is hot.
Having scored a goal in each of the last three Big Ten conference games, including the double-overtime golden goal to defeat No. 18 Penn State on Sunday, the sophomore is in the midst his most productive streak of the season.
“I've always been a really streaky player throughout my career,” Roberge said after Sunday's victory. “Whenever I start to get on a little bit of a roll, score a couple of goals, my confidence gets very high. My teammates have been able to put me in the right spots, and I've been able to capitalize on the opportunities I've been getting.”
Roberge hasn't started a single game this season, but is third on the team in goals (three) and points (eight).
With that victory over Penn State, the No. 16 'Cats (8-3-5, 3-1-3) currently sit in third place in the Big Ten with just one match remaining. But, the final standings are extremely variable because the top seven teams in the conference are separated by four points.
The 'Cats will now take on Wisconsin (3-10-3, 0-6-1) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Lakeside Field in their regular-season finale. Thanks to earning three-points against the Conference-leading Nittany Lions, head coach Tim Lenahan's squad enters its final match still in the mix for the Big Ten regular-season crown, which would be the program's third in the last four seasons.
Tickets for Wednesday's match are available at the entrance to Lakeside Field, by calling 888-GO-PURPLE or at NUSports.com.
