EVANSTON, Ill. -- Coming off a dramatic last-minute road draw against No. 17 Indiana the Wildcats return home Sunday to host the Maryland Terrapins, back-to-back College Cup final four participants in 2012 and 2013, in a Big Ten clash live on Big Ten Network.
Sunday in Bloomington, sophomore midfielder Brandon Medina rose up and drove an equalizing header past the Hoosiers goalkeeper with less than 90-seconds remaining in the contest to level the scoreline against the reigning Big Ten champions. Northwestern is 4-1-4 overall this season, and 0-1-2 in the Conference.
At noon on Sunday, they'll be back at it once again at Lakeside Field against perennial national power Maryland, currently navigating its first season in the Big Ten Conference. The Terps advanced to the national championship game last season before falling to Notre Dame, and were national semifinalists in 2012. A founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, Maryland left the league with four of the last six league titles in their possession, as well as an NCAA championship in 2008.
Wildcats senior goalkeeper Tyler Miller had his scoreless streak snapped against Indiana on a penalty kick, but the New Jersey native hasn't allowed a goal through the run of play in 436 minutes—since an own goal against Ohio State on Sept. 14. He has six clean sheets on the season and anchors a Northwestern defense that ranks eighth in the country with a 0.40 GAA.
The Terrapins come to Evanston featuring a balanced attack—six different players have scored goals for them this season and no one has scored more than two. They have a 3-4-2 record and are coming of a 1-0 loss to regional rival Georgetown on their home turf.
Tickets for Sunday's game will be available at the entrance to Lakeside Field. One ticket is good for both the men's game against Maryland (12pm) and the women's game against Illinois later in the afternoon (5pm).
