EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern women's swimming and diving hosted the third-annual installment of its Breaststroke4BreastCancer relay Wednesday night at the Norris Aquatics Center, bringing its three-year total raised for local cancer research to nearly $25,000.

Started by then-juniors Jackie Powell and Megan Goss in 2012 to honor Megan's mother following a breast cancer diagnoses, the event continued in strong fashion in the first year after their graduation under the direction of senior Madeleine Klichowski. Over 150 participants on 18 teams packed 17 lanes at the Norris Aquatics Center for an hour of swimming and fun in the latest edition of the relay.

All monies raised by the Breaststroke4BreastCancer benefit the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation.

This year, Northwestern's divers got in on the action with a "halftime" exhibition on the boards. Student-athletes from several of the Wildcats' other varsity squads and head coaches April Likhite (cross country) and Claire Pollard (women's tennis) also took to the pool to aid in the effort. The father of NU freshman Maddy Sims, David Sims, a 1980 Olympic qualifier (in the year the U.S. boycotted the Moscow Olympics) and Masters Swimming Champion, also swam.

The Evanston Masters team completed 4,700 yards to win the relay, while the Chicago Smelts earned special recognition for growing their team of participants from 10 members in 2012 to 35 members in 2014.
