EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern hosts its second United States Fencing Association (USFA) event this weekend, the Remenyik Open, at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion. The event welcomes fencers all over to converge upon Northwestern's campus for two days of spirited competition.

There are three levels of competition scheduled to take place across all three weapons at the Remenyik Open. The two-day competition kicks off on Saturday at approximately 8 a.m. when the Division I men's foil and Cadet men's sabre events begin. The first opportunity to see the Wildcats in action comes at approximately 10:30 a.m. during the junior women's sabre bouts. Sophomore Cindy Oh will compete, as will freshmen Nika Shender and Emine Yücel.

Division I women's foil (noon) and junior women's epée (2 p.m.) are also on tap for Saturday. Competitiors among the foil squad include Sarah Bruhl, Mary Spohn, Tina Umanskiy and Jen Yamin. Sophomore Mandeep Bhinder and newcomers Anna Tolley and Katie Van Riper will be among those on the strips for junior women's epée.

Fencing resumes Sunday morning at 8 a.m. Northwestern will once again be idle during the earliest session before the junior women's foil begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by Division I women's epée at noon. A group of NU representatives will also be in action at about 1:30 p.m. for the Division I women's sabre tournament.

The field for junior women's foil includes Northwestern sophomore Kimmy Fishman with newcomers Kaila Budofsky, Lucia Procopio, Michelle Lee, and more. Bhinder, along with other veteran epée fencers Kaitlyn Wallace and Helen Foster are slated to compete on Sunday as well.

The final group of 'Cats scheduled to fence in the Remenyik Open includes a few of the aforementioned sabreists, along with Ania Parzecki, Emily Comstock and Julia Abelsky.

The top eight places in all events receive swords, battle axes, or daggers. Admission is free for the USFA Remenyik Open.
