PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- No. 19 Northwestern (6-2-4) will look to bounce back when they head to Piscataway, New Jersey to take on Big Ten newcomer Rutgers (4-7-1) on Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT. The Scarlet Knights are on the other end of the spectrum, having finally broken a six-game winless streak with a 4-1 victory over Penn.
In their first season as a part of the Big Ten, Rutgers has amassed a conference record of 1-3-1 and are led by freshman Jason Wright, who has scored seven of their 14 total goals on the season. The Kingston, Jamaica, native is explosive up front and experienced against top competition, having played for Jamaica's U17 and U20 national teams.
Saturday's game will match Wright against a stout Northwestern defense that ranks eighth in the nation in GAA. In front of senior goalkeeper Tyler Miller, the unit is anchored by seniors Connor Holloway, Nikko Boxall and Grant Wilson.
Northwestern's month-long unbeaten streak came to an end on Tuesday night in a 1-0 loss to defending NCAA champion Notre Dame in South Bend.
The game's lone goal came on an Irish penalty kick. Since Sept. 17, Miller and the `Cats have surrendered only four goals, three of which have been scored from the penalty spot versus only one during the run of play.
The Wildcats, 1-2-2 on the road this season, are nearing the midway point of a stretch of five consecutive games away from Evanston. Northwestern does not play again at Lakeside Field until Sunday, Nov. 2 when they welcome Penn State to campus.
