`Cats Head to ITA Midwest Regional

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern hits the road this weekend to compete in the ITA Midwest Regional. Hosted by the University of Michigan, the tournament runs from Thursday, Oct. 16 to Monday, Oct. 20. All nine Wildcats will play singles, and eight will make four pairs in doubles.
NU is one of twenty-one schools participating this weekend, including fellow Big Ten members Michigan, Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.
Competition begins on Thursday with two qualifying singles rounds. Senior Alberto Zanotti and sophomore Alp Horoz are slated to play in the draw, with Horoz seeded No. 11.
Alex Pasareanu, Fedor Baev, Mihir Kumar, Sam Shropshire, Konrad Zieba, Strong Kirchheimer, and Logan Staggs are set to play in the main singles draw, which begins Friday afternoon. Preason No. 78 Shropshire is seeded No. 6, and Logan Staggs and Strong Kirchheimer are seeded No. 14 and No. 15 respectively.
The main doubles draw also kicks off on Friday. The Northwestern duos are Kirchheimer-Staggs, Baev-Shropshire, Horoz-Zieba, and Kumar-Pasareanu. Baev and Shropshire are seeded No. 7, and Kumar and Pasareanu are seeded No. 15.
