NU vs. Michigan Game Notes Get Acrobat Reader

EVANSTON, Ill.--No. 7 Northwestern opens Big Ten conference play traveling to Ann Arbor to face Michigan on Saturday, Sep. 28 at 6 p.m. CT. 

The Wildcats are 6-1-0 on the season, riding a six-game winning streak in which they've outscored their opponents 14-1 during the stretch. Michigan comes into the game with a 2-2-3 record. In the Wolverines last game, they played to a scoreless tie in double overtime against Oakland. 

No. 7 `Cats Riding 6-Game Winning Streak

The Wildcats earned the No. 7 ranking in this week's NSCAA poll. NU holds a 6-1-0 season record, winning their last six games in a row by a combined 14-1. Northwestern's six game winnings streak is the second longest in school history (since 1980), to an eight-game winning streak by the `Cats during the 1988 season. 

NU Moves To No. 7 in National Poll

Northwestern moved up to No. 7 in this week's NSCAA National Poll, up from No. 16 last week.  NU also No. 10 by College Soccer News. Northwestern's No. 7 ranking  is the team's highest ranking since also earning a No. 7 spot on December 16, 2008.

Ritter Named National Player of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer

For the second consecutive week, a Northwestern player has been named a national player of the week. This week, senior midfielder Chris Ritter was named National Player of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer.

Ritter also took B1G Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. Ritter registered both of the Wildcats' game-winning goals over the weekend--his first two goals of the season--and was named the Most Valuable Player in the Lakeside Classic.

In NU's 3-0 victory against Saint Mary's on Friday, Ritter headed in the `Cats first goal off a corner kick. On Sunday against Fairleigh Dickinson, Ritter broke a 1-1 tie with a penalty kick goal, giving NU a 2-1 lead which held up for the rest of the game.

Sophomore forward Joey Calistri has tallied seven goals, two assists and 15 points this season. The seven goals and 16 points rank in the top five in the nation and leads the Big Ten:

Donut Patrol

Northwestern's 3-0 win against Saint Mary's on Sep. 20 marked junior goalkeeper Tyler Miller's 24th career shutout. The 24 shutouts rank second in school history, behind Misha Rosenthal, who recorded 29 shutouts from 2005-09.
