EVANSTON, Ill.. -- No. 16 Northwestern extended its winning and shutout streak to five matches Friday night at the Lakeside Classic, taking down Saint Mary's, 3-0. Chris Ritter, Grant Wilson and Joey Calistri each scored goals as the Wildcats improve to 5-1-0 on the season.

Ritter got the Wildcats on the board in the first half, scoring off a set piece at the 32:10 mark. Brandon Medina took the corner kick and served it in to Ritter who scored off a header for his first goal of the season and Medina's third assist of the year.

NU limited Saint Mary's to just two shots in the first frame, neither of which were on goal as the Wildcats took the 5-2 lead on shots and 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard into the break.

"It was a good win for us. We were able to have a lot of success with your set pieces. It was good to get early seperation and we could open up a little," head coach Tim Lenahan said. "And you just can't make a mistake with Joey Calistri. He only needs one opportunity."

In the second half, the Wildcats utilized another set piece to score their second goal of the match. NU had a favorable free kick spot outside of the 18-yard box as Medina assisted on another goal, his fourth of the year, finding Grant Wilson for the score. It was Wilson's first goal of the year as NU went up 2-0 at 62:31.

Shortly after that, Wilson assisted on Calistri's team-leading seventh goal of the year as NU took the 3-0 lead at the 65:12 mark.

Northwestern finished with the 9-5 advantage on shots and 4-3 edge in shots on goal. NU goalkeeper Tyler Miller saved all three of the Gaels' shots on goal in the second half for his fifth shutout of the year, 24th of his career.

The Wildcats continue action at the Lakeside Classic on Sunday, hosting Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday in the tournament finale at 2 p.m.
