2013 NCAA Championship Results

SAN ANTONIO, Texas-- On the third day of the 2013 NCAA Fencing Championship it was finally time for the ladies, including four Northwestern Wildcats, to hit the strips at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas.

After one day of competition, three 'Cats sit in the top-10 of their respective weapon groups. As a team, Northwestern is 11th overall after three days of the combined event with 31 points. A team point is awarded for each individual victory meaning NU's quartet was quite successful Saturday.

Sophomore Courtney Dumas. had the most successful day for Northwestern. The Cleveland, Ohio, native is in eighth place amongst the field of 24 women's epeeists. Dumas posted 10 victories, including a pair of 5-4 successes against Penn State's Margherita Guzzi Vincenti and her own NU teammate, Dina Bazarbayeva. Vincenti, the 2010 individual national champion, is currently second in the group.

Northwestern's Bazarbayeva is hot on Dumas' heels as she currently holds 10th place in the individual epée standings. The native Texan has collected nine victories thus far in her second NCAA Championship appearance.

In foil, three-time All-American Dayana Sarkisova is in ninth place after 15 bouts. The senior won eight of those 15 battles as she continues on her quest to become Northwestern's fourth fencer all-time to achieve four career All-America honors.

Chloe Grainger is NU's lone fencer in the sabre field. The senior picked up four wins and currently stands 21st overall in the standings for her weapon.

The NCAA Championship concludes Sunday, March 24 at the Freeman Coliseum. Rounds 5-7 will be contested beginning at 9:30 a.m. The semifinal and championship bouts will be held beginning at approximately 1:45 p.m. The latter portion will be shown live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN App. To access the live coverage, please click here.
