No. 21 Northeastern Sneaks Past 'Cats, 2-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Junior Nikki Parsley pulled the Wildcats (1-1, 0-0) even with Northeastern with five minutes to play, but the Huskies netted a goal with no time remaining to come away with a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Cardinal Classic.
"We did a great job to come back and tie the game after pulling our goalkeeper," head coach Tracey Fuchs said after the game. "To lose with no time on the clock is disappointing but we have gained valuable experience this weekend."
Scoring took place in the extremes, as Northeastern (2-0, 0-0) wasted no time finding the back of the cage within the first two minutes, and it was not until Parsley's goal in the 65th minute that the scoreboard changed. Senior Chelsea Armstrong assisted Parsley's tally, which came after goalie Maddy Carpenter was pulled to allow for a 12th offensive player. The strategy paid off and the Wildcats evened the score at one.
However, five minutes later, Northeastern converted on a penalty corner with no time remaining to collect the win.
As they have done in the past, the Wildcats out-shot their opponent, taking 13 shots on goal to Northeastern's six. Armstrong alone had five for NU. In total, Northwestern recorded 17 shots, 12 of which came in the second period.
The Wildcats return to the pitch on Wednesday, Aug. 29, when they take on No. 4 Stanford in California at 2 p.m.
