Colorado Springs, Colo.-- Wildcat standouts Maddy Carpenter and Nikki Parsley were once again named to the U21 Junior National Squad, USA Field Hockey announced last week. The duo made a splash in June guiding the Midwest team to a fifth-place finish in the USA Field Hockey National Championships and performed exceptionally well at Junior National Camp at the University of Massachusetts last week in order to secure the spots.
The U21 squad is comprised of 30 student-athletes. Several of whom will report to a training camp next month at the University of Maryland in preparation for the Junior Pan American Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico, September 8-24.
The Wildcats have been well represented at the national level, as Parsley and Carpenter were named to the Junior National Team back in February and traveled to London to compete in four test matches against the U21 England National Team. Additionally, head coach Tracey Fuchs was an assistant coach with the US national team at the 2011 Pan American Games last fall when the US claimed its first gold medal and earned a berth to the Olympic Games in London.
The Wildcats open the 2012 season against Miami (Oh.) in the Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Ky. on August 25. For the complete schedule, please click HERE.
