Zhang Qualifies for 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern sophomore Nicole Zhang (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) secured a spot at the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur after winning medalist honors at a qualifying event on July 19. Zhang topped the leaderboard at the U.S. Women's Amateur Sectional Qualifier played at the Pinery Country Club in Parker, Colo., posting an even-par 72 (33-39).
 
Zhang will compete at the 112th U.S. Women's Amateur from August 6-12 at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio. Fans can tune into the Golf Channel from 2-4 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday, August 8-Sunday, August 12 to watch the tournament.
 
The 2012-13 season will be Zhang's first year at Northwestern after transferring from Notre Dame. With the Irish, she earned All-BIG EAST honors, landed a spot on the NGCA All-Central Region team and in 2010, became the first golfer in school history to compete at the U.S. Women's Open.
