EVANSTON, Ill. – Postseason action continues for the Northwestern women's golf team as the 'Cats were one of 72 teams selected to compete in NCAA Regionals. NU heads to Penn State's campus in State College, Pa., to compete at the NCAA East Regional, which runs from May 10-12. The East Regional will be played on the Penn State Blue Course. The tournament teams were announced Monday night on the NCAA Selection Show.

One of 24 teams competing at the East Regional, Northwestern received the region's No. 15 seed. The tournament is a 54-hole format with teams playing 18 holes each day. A total of 378 participants will compete in three regionals (six individuals along with the 24 teams selected for each regional) and 126 will advance to the NCAA championship finals.

Northwestern is one of six Big Ten teams to make the field and joins the 2012 Big Ten Champions, Michigan State, in the East Regional. The 'Cats are also joined by seven other conference champions, most notably, ACC champion Duke. The East Regional is a competitive one as nine teams are ranked in the top-25 in the latest Golfstat.com Women's Rankings and they include the following: No. 2 Alabama, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 8 Duke, No. 14 Florida, No. 17 Arizona, No. 19 Oklahoma State, No. 24 South Carolina and No. 25 Michigan State. A complete list of teams with seeds can be found below.

This is NU's 10th NCAA appearance and the 'Cats have finished in the top-15 in the nine previous regional events. Last year, NU took 10th at the NCAA Central Regional, played in South Bend, Ind., led by a top-20 finish from Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central).

Northwestern is familiar with the Penn State Blue Course, having played the 2008 Big Ten Championships there. The Blue Course annually hosts the Nittany Lion Women's Golf Invitational and has hosted numerous events conducted by the USGA, FCWT, AJGA, IJGT, PGA Junior Series and the West Penn Golf Association.

The 'Cats will look for a strong showing at the regional in hopes of qualifying for the 2012 NCAA Championships from May 22-25, played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. The top eight teams and two individuals from each regional will advance to the NCAA championships.
