COLUMBUS, Ohio – After scoring just the fourth hole-in-one in Northwestern women's golf history, junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) finished the Lady Buckeye Invitational strong, leading the 'Cats in the final round. Weaver finished in a tie for 11th, which helped NU place sixth at the tournament.
Weaver and senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) had the best third-round scores for the 'Cats, shooting a 6-over 78 Sunday. Weaver recorded birdies on holes six, nine and 13 for her fourth top-20 finish of the year. She finished the tournament at 15-over 231 (81-72-78), tying with two others for 11th.
Sophomore Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and freshman Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) entered Sunday's final round with the same score and again shot a similar 9-over 81 in the third round. Both totaled a 17-over 233 to tie for 17th.
Freshman Brittany Mai (Poway, Calif./Poway) also had a 9-over 81 Sunday and finished at 22-over 238 (78-79-81) to tie for 33rd. Lederhausen was one stroke behind Mai, finishing at 23-over 239 (80-81-78) and tied for 35th in the senior's final regular season tournament at Northwestern.
Junior Anne Ormson (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's) rounded out the NU competitors in the 6-count-4 tournament tying for 38th at 25-over 241 (80-79-82).
Northwestern finished the tournament in sixth place at 67-over 931 (313-300-318), 12 strokes ahead of seventh-place Minnesota (943) and just five behind fifth-place Kent State (926). Eight Big Ten teams were in the Lady Buckeye field and NU placed ahead of conference foes Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Penn State and Illinois. Ohio State and Michigan State finished first and second, respectively.
With the regular season complete, Northwestern now turns its attention to the 2012 Big Ten Championships. The 'Cats finished third at last year's tournament, which NU hosted, and look for another strong result at this year's event which moves to French Lick, Ind., from April 27-29.
