Weaver Tied for Second at Mountain View Collegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior Lauren Weaver is back in her home state of Arizona and had a strong first day at the Mountain View Collegiate. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native is currently tied for second with two other players after shooting a 3-under 69 in the opening round and followed that up with a 1-under 71, to finish the first two rounds with a 4-under 140. Weaver's first round score of 69 is a season-low for the junior after posting three rounds of 71 at previous tournaments this year. It was a competitive first day of play as 15 players either finished on or under-par through 36 holes.

Weaver is one of seven NU competitors at the Mountain View Collegiate as the 'Cats sent their usual group of five and two more who are playing as individuals. Junior Mei Liu (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis), who is competing as an individual, finished with a 1-over 73 after the first 18 and followed that up with a 3-over 75. After two rounds, her combined score of 4-over 148 ties her for 27th.

Freshman Brittany Mai (Poway, Calif./Poway) posted a 3-over 75 in each round Friday to tie for 38th (6-over 150). Senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) vaulted 40 spots in the standings, from a tie for 78th also to 38th after improving eight strokes in the second round. She began at 7-over 79 but then bounced back in the second with a 1-under 71 to tie with Mai.

Freshman Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) is tied for 48th with an 8-over 152. She began at a 5-over 77 and improved two strokes in the second round, posting a 3-over 75. Sophomore Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) shot a 5-over 77 in each round (154), tying for 54th.

Junior Anne Ormson (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's), who also is playing as an individual, finished day one in a tie for 75th. She began at a 4-over 76 and then finished with a 10-over 82 for a combined score of 158 (+14).

After day one, the team race also is a tight one as the 'Cats are currently in eighth (14-over 590), just two strokes behind seventh-place San Jose State (12-over 588) and three strokes behind sixth-place Ohio State (11-over 587). Texas Tech leads the 15-team field with a 6-under 570 (284-286).

The final 18 holes of the Mountain View Collegiate take place tomorrow morning.
