EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Dayana Sarkisova has been named the National Fencer of the Week by CollegeFencing360.com, the website announced Wednesday. The two-time All-American foilist went 16-1 at the Northwestern Duals over the weekend.

Sarkisova (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) won 16 of her 17 bouts at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion to help the Wildcats defeat Fairleigh Dickinson, Stanford Stevens Tech, UC-San Diego, Cal Tech, North Carolina and No. 10 Duke.

The junior leads the foil squad with 67 wins this season and possesses the Wildcats' highest winning percentage. Sarkisova has won at a clip of .931 in 2012 and career winning percentage of .849 ranks third all-time in Northwestern history (minimum 100 victories).

Sarkisova, the female winner, shares the award this week with Ohio State's Mona Shaito. Shaito and the Buckeyes were in Evanston for the Northwestern Duals, but did not face Sarkisova and the Wildcats.

The 'Cats will return to the strips Saturday, Feb. 11 when they welcome teams from around the Midwest for a second installment of the Northwestern Duals. This weekend's competition features several Midwest Fencing Conference foes including Wisconsin, University of Chicago and Illinois. Fencing begins at 8 a.m. at historic Patten Gymnasium.
