EVANSTON, Ill. – After a top-five finish at the season-opening Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Northwestern looks to carry that momentum into the second event of its spring schedule, the Central District Invitational. Competition begins Monday, Feb. 20, at the River Wilderness Golf Club in Parrish, Fla. The 15-team field will play 36 holes (two rounds) on Monday and conclude the tournament Tuesday with a final round of 18.

Another competitive field awaits the Wildcats as 12 teams, including NU at No. 35, are ranked in the Feb. 12 Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Included in this week's field are three top-10 teams, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 6 LSU and No. 7 North Carolina, along with five other Big Ten teams. Two of those conference teams sit ahead of Northwestern in the rankings including No. 21 Ohio State and No. 26 Michigan State, who is hosting the event. No. 48 Michigan, Indiana and Minnesota will also compete at the Central District Invitational.

Northwestern opened its 2012 spring schedule last weekend at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The 'Cats improved their standing in each round, finishing in 10th after the first 18 holes, eighth after the second and ended the tournament in fifth. Senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) led the 'Cats, tying for ninth. Freshman Brittany Mai (Poway, Calif./Poway) had the best finish of her young NU career, tying for 12th.

Last year, Northwestern finished sixth at the Central District Invitational. Junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) was the top NU finisher, tying for 17th and Lederhausen also had a top-20 finish, tying for 19th. This is Northwestern's 10th appearance at the Central District Invitational in the last 11 years. The Wildcats won the 2001 tournament and have five top-10 finishes during the last 11 years.
