EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern received contributions from nearly its entire roster Saturday as it cruised to victory against its eight opponents at the NU Duals inside historic Patten Gymnasium in Evanston, Ill. The 'Cats improved their record to 37-7 on the season with Saturdays wins.

The Wildcats outscored their eight foes by a combined score of 201-15. Northwestern fenced against Indiana, Chicago, Purdue, Iowa, Lawrence, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Michigan State and Michigan were scheduled to attend the duals, but were unable to make it to Evanston because of inclement weather in Michigan and Indiana.

"We like to use this day to get some of fencers with less experience a chance to get out there and shine," said Northwestern head coach Laurie Schiller. "They're working against club teams and we expect them to go out and win these bouts and for the most part they do.

"Our team did well and the energy was there," said Schiller. "I'm pleased with how things turned out today."

Several Wildcats turned in standout performances including junior Kate Cavanaugh (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet). The epée squad captain notched her 200th career victory during Northwestern's 24-3 victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Select freshmen members of the Wildcats will venture to Salt Lake City next weekend for the USFA National Junior Olympics. That event begins Friday, Feb. 17 and runs through Monday, Feb. 20. On Feb. 26, the 'Cats will travel en masse to New York City for the U.S. Collegiate Squad Championship.
