NEW YORK CITY -- Northwestern concluded a busy weekend by splitting six duals at the New York Invitational on Sunday. The Wildcats knocked off Yale, Wayne State and NYU on the day, while falling narrowly to rivals Notre Dame, Ohio State and Columbia.

In their first dual of the day the Wildcats went up against a talented Columbia squad playing in their home city. The Bears jumped out to an early 7-2 lead on Northwestern, however the 'Cats would settle down and cut into the deficit. In the end Columbia handed Northwestern its second one-point in as many days, 14-13.

NU bounced back with authority in its next dual against Yale. The epée and sabre squads each posted eight wins en route to a convincing 22-5 triumph.

Next up for Northwestern was another top-ranked opponent and the defending national champions, Notre Dame. The Wildcats had few answers for the Fighting Irish as they posted only eight wins to 19 defeats. NU's epée squad combined to collect four of those eight wins.

The 'Cats also stumbled against Ohio State, another top-10 team. Northwestern's foil team won six of its nine bouts, but that was not quite enough as the Buckeyes were able to win the dual in narrow fashion, 15-12.

Northwestern closed out the day with a pair of convincing victories. First, the purple and white toppled Wayne State, 20-7. The Wildcats epée and sabre squads led the way in that dual by notching eight wins apiece. The day concluded with a thorough handling of the host school NYU. NU knocked off the Bobcats, 21-6, behind eight wins in the epée.

The Wildcats will face another tough field again next time out when they make the short trip to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Duals. The women's competition will be held on Saturday, January 28 underneath the golden dome.
