ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Northwestern got out to a strong start at the 32nd annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational and is currently in first place out of 18 teams. The Wildcats sit at 2-over 586 after two rounds and lead second place Denver by two strokes (588). Individually, three Wildcats are currently in the top-20.
Northwestern began the day shooting a 2-under 290 and finished the day with a 4-over 296 in the second round. Sophomore Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) leads the Wildcats as she sits in fourth place with a 2-under 144. Brown had five birdies in the first round to finish with a 3-under 70. In the second round, Brown double-bogeyed on the seventh hole but bounced back with two birdies to finish with a 1-over 74.
Junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) is one stroke behind Brown with a 1-under 145. Weaver registered four birdies in the first round for a 2-under 71 and played at par until a bogey in the third hole of round two to finish with a 1-over 74 in the second.
Senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) shot a 1-over 147 and is in a tie for 12th after two rounds. Lederhausen had back-to-back bogeys on the 13th and 14th holes and had another on the fourth hole, but birdied the first and third to finish at 1-over 74 in the first round. In the second, she registered four birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey to finish at even par.
Freshman Brittany Mai (Poway, Calif./Poway) is tied for 24th with a 4-over 150. She finished with a 2-over 75 in both rounds and had three birdies combined. Freshman Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) struggled in the first round with a double-bogey, bogey and double-bogey on holes 14-16 but bounced back with a birdie on the 17th. She finished with a 5-over 78 in the first round, improved to a 3-over 76 in the second round and is tied for 58th after the first day (8-over 154).
Northwestern looks to stay atop the leaderboard as it closes out the third and final round of the Dick McGuire Invitational tomorrow at 9 a.m.
