EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern and U.S. Lacrosse announced on Tuesday plans for the preseason 2012 Champion Challenge, which for the seventh consecutive year will be played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The two-day event, scheduled for Jan. 28-29, 2012, features the Northwestern and Maryland women's teams, the University of Denver men's team as well as the U.S. Senior Men's and Women's lacrosse squads.
Northwestern is slated to compete on the second day of action, Sunday, Jan. 29, taking on the women's national team from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. ET.
Six players with Northwestern ties are set to suit up for Team USA, including two Wildcats -- senior Shannon Smith and junior Taylor Thornton -- who will face their current teammates as members of the national team. Joining Smith and Thornton on that squad are former 'Cats Sarah Albrecht ('06), Katrina Dowd ('10), Lindsey Munday ('06) and Danielle Spencer ('10).
In addition to playing, both U.S. men's and women's national teams will host National Team Player Clinics for youth and high school players in grades 3-12 on Saturday, Jan. 28.
