EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) have been named National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar recipients for the 2010-11 academic year.
Leaderhausen earned the national recognition for the third year in a row. The rising senior was second on the team with a 75.86 scoring average, the seventh-best single-season average in program history. Her second-round 68 in the Big Ten Championships was the third-lowest score in program history and helped the 'Cats to third-place finish in the tournament. Leaderhausen finished in the top three on the Wildcat scorecard in 11 of 12 events, tied for the most on the team
This is the fourth-straight year Lindenschmidt has earned NGCA recognition, as she recently graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. She closed out her senior campaign with a 78.78 scoring average and an impressive 19th-place finish in the Central District Invitational. The outgoing senior earned numerous accolades after the season, including being named a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American, the first Wildcat to earn the honor. She earned Academic All-District recognition for second straight year and was tabbed a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for a third consecutive year. Lindenschmidt also was a recipient of NU's 2011 Director's Award, given to one male and female student-athlete for highest GPA at Northwestern.
Both Lederhausen and Lindenschmidt were among six Wildcats to earn Academic All-Big Ten honors.
A total of 576 women's collegiate golfers from Divisions I, II and III were recognized by the National Golf Coaches Association with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
