Fuchs Accompanies U.S. Senior Squad to Champions Challenge

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Continuing her firm ties to United States National Team field hockey, Northwestern head coach Tracey Fuchs is with the squad in Dublin, Ireland this week as an assistant coach for the Champions Challenge tournament.
The event brings together the eight teams currently ranked No. 9-16 in the world and gets underway Saturday, June 18. The U.S. senior squad is slated to play the first game of the tournament against a challenging Japanese team before facing Scotland and South Africa in the remaining two games of pool play.
The Champions Challenge culminates on Saturday, June 26, with games to determine seventh, fifth, third and first place.
Earlier this summer, Fuchs spent time preparing the senior team for the Champions Challenge with a five-game training series against Japan in Chula Vista, Calif. The two teams split the outcomes with two wins for the Americans, two for Japan and a tie in the fifth game.
Fuchs, a 17-year player and 14-year captain for the U.S. National Team, is entering her third season as head coach of Northwestern. In her first two years, Fuchs led the 'Cats to consecutive winning seasons for the first time in over a decade and last year coached the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honoree, Chelsea Armstrong.
