EVANSTON, Ill. -- After two weeks of spring practice, the Wildcat field hockey team is set to start their spring season this Saturday, April 16, with a match at the University of Iowa. The match will be the first of four play days scheduled for the Wildcats this spring.
Northwestern continues spring play with three home matches. NU hosts a play day featuring Iowa and the Chicago Field Hockey Club on April 23. On May 7, the 'Cats face off against the Chicago Club and NUFH Alumni in a 7 vs. 7 tournament. The spring schedule concludes with a final contest vs. Chicago Club on May 14.
"We are looking forward to these spring games to get some of our younger players more playing time," said Northwestern head coach Tracey Fuchs. "We will look for our experience to carry us, and we will try different tactics to prepare us for the fall."
The 'Cats return eight starters from a 2010 team that finished 11-9 and 3-3 in conference play, including Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Chelsea Armstrong, forwards Nikki Parsley, Kaylee Pohlmeyer and Regan Mooney, and a defensive line lead by Amanda Wirth, Jaimie Orrico, Megan Jamieson and Julia Retzky. Armstrong, Parsley and Mooney return as the team's leading scorers from 2010.
