EVANSTON, Ill. – Sixth-ranked Northwestern wrapped up its 2010-11 dual meet schedule in dominating fashion, reaching at least 21 points in all 10 matches and cruising to a perfect 10-0 mark at Patten Gymnasium. The Wildcats surpassed the 40-win plateau for the second-straight season, finishing the dual meet season with an overall record of 41-6.

Northwestern, hosting its yearly second installment of the NU Duals, were hardly tested on the day, winning 29 of the 30 head-to-head weapon meets. The opening match against Indiana proved to be the most competitive of the day for the Wildcats as Northwestern took the 21-6 decision behind an 8-1 mark by the foil squad and a perfect 9-0 mark by the sabre.

From that point on, the Wildcat dominance commenced, starting with a pair of 23-4 victories over Chicago and Michigan State. Northwestern then took down Michigan 25-2 before tacking another 24-3 victory on the scoresheet, this time over Purdue.

Northwestern then compiled back-to-back 27-0 shutouts over Lawrence and Wisconsin before taking down Iowa 22-5. The Wildcats then closed out its final dual meet tournament with a 24-3 decision over Minnesota and a 26-1 thrashing of Illinois.

All three weapons had extremely productive outings, led by the foil team's 10-0 mark with a combined weapon score of 84-6, one victory better than the sabre squad's 83-7 as they also posted a 10-0 record on the day. After stumbling early against Indiana, the epee squad responded to finish 9-1 at the NU Duals with an overall weapon record of 75-15.

Northwestern's 41 victories on the year marks the second-highest single-season win total in program history, second only to last season's 45-6 performance. The Wildcats closed out the 2010-11 season on a positive note, winning its final 14 dual meets.

The Wildcats now set their sights on the postseason, which begins next weekend at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships in South Bend, Ind. Up first for Northwestern is the individual competition on Saturday, March 5, before competing for the team title on Sunday, March 6. The Wildcats have finished in the top three of the conference standings in each of the past 17 seasons, but are seeking their first conference championship since 2001.
