2011 Lady Puerto Rico Round One Results

RIO MAR, P.R. -- Northwestern put together a strong showing in its first round of golf in the spring season, shooting a 19-over 307 through the first round of the 2011 Lady Puerto Rico. The Wildcats enter Monday's round two in eighth-place out of 18 teams through the opening 18 holes, holding a one-stroke lead on both Oklahoma and Georgia.

Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) and Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) set the tone for the Wildcats in day one as the duo each posted a 3-over 75 and currently sit tied for 16th in the individual standings. Weaver notched three birdies on the day, with a three bogeys and a tough triple bogey on hole nine accounting for her 75. Brown was consistent throughout the afternoon for Northwestern, recording par on 15 of 18 holes with just three bogeys.

Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) sits three shots back of her Wildcat teammates after recording a 6-over 78 through the opening round, one stroke better than Kelsey Lindenschmidt's (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) 7-over 79. Rebecca Lederhausen rounded out the Northwestern scorecard with a 9-over 81.

Northwestern, which was teamed up with Auburn, Texas Tech and TCU in its day one pairing, held its own against some of the top teams in the country, posting the second-best showing of the foursome behind only TCU's 15-over 303. The Wildcats remain well within striking distance of a handful of teams, sitting just four shots back of both the Horned Frogs and Florida State who are tied for fourth overall. NU also enters Monday's second round two strokes back of sixth-place Southern Methodist and one shot back of seventh-place Kent State.

Alabama, the nation's top-ranked team heading into the tournament, is earning its ranking, posting a 2-under 286 through round one and building a comfortable 14 stroke lead on second-place Purdue and Iowa State (12-over 300). Oklahoma and Georgia (20-over 308) both sit one shot back of the Wildcats to round out the top-10 through 18 holes.

Monday's second round gets underway with a 7 a.m. CT shotgun start. The Wildcats are teamed up with Florida State, SMU and Kent State in the round two foursome and tee off from holes four through seven, the same starting spot Northwestern had in Sunday's opening round.
