College Soccer News 201 All-Freshman Teams

EVANSTON, Ill. – Two key members of the Northwestern defense were honored Thursday as College Soccer News named defender Nikko Boxall (Auckland, New Zealand/Mt. Albert) and goalkeeper Tyler Miller (Woodbury, N.J./Bishop Eustace) to its second team all-freshman list.

The three all-freshman teams include players from throughout NCAA Division I and first-year players from four different Big Ten teams made the list. Northwestern was the only conference team to receive two honorees as Indiana, Michigan State and Penn State each had one.

This year, Boxall and Miller helped the NU defense shut out 10 opponents, record a 0.90 goals-against average and played a big role in the Wildcats' first-ever Big Ten regular season and tournament titles.

Boxall played in all 21 matches, starting 20, and logged the third-most minutes on the team with 1,839. He also scored two goals for the Wildcats this year, including the game-winning goal in NU's 2-0 victory over Northern Illinois.

Miller had nine of NU's 10 shutouts this season, while recording a goals-against average of 0.86 and a .746 save percentage. His nine shutouts are the second highest single-season total in NU history and tie for fourth on the career shutouts list. Miller's goals-against average also ranks third for a single season. Five of Miller's nine shutouts came during Northwestern's 11-match unbeaten streak that spanned from Oct. 1-Nov. 13.

Boxall and Miller were also All-Big Ten honorees and unanimous selections for the conference All-Freshman Team. Boxall earned second-team honors while Miller was a first-team selection.
