KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Freshman Courtney Dumas was the top finisher amongst three Northwestern Wildcats who competed at the December North American Cup in Kansas City this past weekend. Dumas placed 19th in the women's epée.

Dumas' strong finish in the nationwide competition is her highest Division I placement to date.

"[Dumas] is progressing very well and she continues to push herself hard," said associate head coach Ed Kaihatsu, who was in Kansas City as a competitor himself. "She continues to impress us with her effort and motivation."

Two other current Wildcats, Dayana Sarkisova and Chole Grainger, also took part in the competition in Kansas City. Sarkisova placed 48th in the women's foil, while Grainger finished 57th in the women's sabre event.

Kaihatsu enjoyed a successful weekend in the Show-Me-State, as well. Northwestern's associate head coach took home the bronze medal in the 40-and-over men's foil competition and a gold medal in the 50-59 men's foil. By capturing the gold in that category, Kaihatsu in now ranked No. 1 in the country in the 50-59 men's foil.
