EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern hosted Rockford College Thursday night at Lakeside Field in a replacement game from the Wildcats' Oct. 19 match against Loyola-Chicago that was canceled due to severe weather. Kyle Schickel (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier) scored a goal and had three assists as the Wildcats shut out the Regents 6-0. With the win, Northwestern is now unbeaten in its last seven matches (6-0-1).
Since Rockford also had a game canceled earlier this year, the two teams were able to meet at Lakeside Field Thursday night. The Regents were playing their third game in as many nights and tonight's contest was the final one of the season for the NCAA Division III school out of the Northern Athletics Conference.
“I want to thank Rockford head coach Ben Shaw and the administration at Rockford for helping us put this game together,” Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan said. “They had a rain out on Tuesday, and they had to play last night, so they had really heavy legs and a short bench from a lot of injuries, so it would have been very easy for them to back out of this game, but they came over and did it and we're very appreciative.”
Schickel scored his third goal of the season in the 16th minute. He also assisted on two first-half scores and a goal in the second to up his assist tally to six this year. Lepe Seetane (Maseru, Lesotho/Trinity) notched two goals for the 'Cats while Scott Lakin (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield), Reed Losee (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) and Jonathan Harris (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) also scored. Harris, who is listed as a goalie on NU's roster, played the field and scored his first career goal.
The regular season home finale is Sunday at 2 p.m. for the Wildcats as they host No. 10 Indiana for Senior Day. Sunday's match features two of the top teams in the conference as Northwestern enters the match first in the standings (3-0-1) while IU is fourth in the conference (2-1-1) and unbeaten in its last five games.
